the life aquatic

I threw down on a re-working of the squid lamp this week. I put the forearms back to work tapering 1/2" rods into tentacles and turning a 4" dia. tube into a cone. Working on this piece reminds me how cool cephalopods are. The challenge with this project is to render in cold steel the form, the texture and the movement of what is approximately equivalent to mucous membrane.... I bent the tentacles cold before attaching them to the head, however it was with the aid of an oxygen-acetylene torch that I was able to get the willowy curves of the tentacles.
